This weekend was a very nice weekend to watch the world championship sprint speed skating. The weekend started pretty good for the Dutch skaters, but after the 2nd 500 meters for both men and women, the difference between the Dutch skaters and the # 1 was too large. But nevertheless one of our men finished 3rd and our best woman finished 4th.
It was too bad that the Dutch skaters didn't do it any better, but I just think that they will do better on the Olympics (at least I hope they do).
The winners were:
Dmitri Dorofejev(RUS) 2 - Joey Cheek (USA) 1- Jan Bos(NED)3
and:
Manli Wang (China) 2 - Svetlana Zjoerova (RUS) 1 - Chiara Simionato (ITA) 3
Just a small word about the winners:
I think Joey Cheek was very strong. Because he did not only win, but he won with a jet-lag. He came in Holland on Thursday and he had to start on Saturday...
About Svetlana Zjoerova (34 years old) I have even more respect. Because she gave birth to a son 2 years ago, so I think it is a big accomplishment for her to win this tournament in such a short period of time...
Last word, too bad that I didn't see any of the skating live this year :ó(...
