Sinterklaas

01-12-2006 and 05-12-2006

Today we celebrated Sinterklaas at home. This is the Dutch Santa Claus, actually some people believe the Santa Claus everybody knows is the same as the Dutch, but then made up in America (For more info click here). But nevertheless this is also a nice celebration.

Every year we celebrate Saint Nicolaas (which is Sinterklaas his full name), because he was such a good person (about 300 AC). Normally Dutch families celebrate is on December 5th, but today my entire family was home, therefore we celebrated it today. This year I got poker-chips, a very nice chocolate "P", a very nice poem, which is a "Sinterklaas"-tradition, and a very nice CD (Ilse DeLange). The poem is mostly about something you did the last year, or something you said and they confront you again with that in a funny way.

It was nice again to see my family again,  but I didn't see them that much this year.

I also celebrated Sinterklaas on December 5th, but that wasn't with family, but at T.C. Ludica. This was also very funny, because you had to say that you were coming and then when you came, you got a present and a name. The present was for that person and you had to make a poem for him. My problem was that I didn't knew who he was, so I couldn't make it a personal poem. But nevertheless it was a very nice evening and hopefully Ludica will put the photo's online pretty soon, then I can give you a link to those photo's.
